Book Typesetting, Layout, and Graphic Design
Bringing the content of your own book into a printable format is the core task of typesetting and layout. Upon separate agreement, we can also provide as an additional service the typographically correct text entry (typesetting), as well as the design and arrangement of individual book pages (layout) for you.
Typography is vital to your success

As an author or publisher, you can handle the text entry yourself using a word processing program. For purely text-based content, this is usually straightforward. Once the pages are fully formatted, they can be exported as a PDF and processed by us for printing.
Please be aware that the style of design has a significant impact on a book's readability. Typesetting and typography have evolved over a long period and follow their own set of rules. These date back to the very beginnings of the art of printing in the 15th century.
Professional publishers pay close attention to appropriate font sizes and typefaces during book production. Optimal line lengths and structured breaks are crucial for an enjoyable reading experience. Poor typography makes reading more difficult and can quickly lead to reader fatigue.
Layout of complex content
Good design becomes particularly important for books that contain many photos, graphics, or tables. These elements should be distributed logically and attractively across the book pages and relate directly to the text content. To achieve a consistent design, a baseline grid is established. This is referred to as the layout.
In addition to font sizes and line widths, aspects such as multi-column layouts, maximum image sizes, and harmonious coloring are also defined here. This allows even complex content to be designed in a visually appealing and consistent manner, ensuring the reader can quickly find their way around the book.
Postscript on Books
Historical or long out-of-print editions can be reprinted. Of course, copyright issues must be considered. However, the digital data is often the problem.
If the original digital files are no longer available, a new typeset is the solution. Using an original copy, we first digitize the content to re-capture the entire text.
The content is then processed via OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract the text. From there, it is imported into professional layout software and aligned with a predefined page layout for final print preparation. We can also digitally re-digitize original images and graphics using high-resolution fine scans.
